TSU- The Research University
I. Javakhishvili Tbilisi State University (TSU), the first university in Georgia and throughout Caucasus illustrates scientific development in the country. For during the decades, the world renowned scientific-research schools have been established on the bases of TSU led by prominent Georgian scholars- Ivane Javakhishvili, Akaki Shanidze, Giorgi Tsereteli, Elefter Andronikashvili, Niko Muskhelishvili, Ivane Beritashvili and many others. As a result, TSU has become the world famous research center in many fields of study.
Many research projects are being carried out at TSU and the university closely collaborates with world leading universities and scientific centers. It is noteworthy the participation of the TSU physicists in ATLAS project carried out implemented at the European Organization for Nuclear Research (CERN, Geneva); And also in project FAIR (Facility for Antiproton and Ion Research) that is deemed to be conducted in Germany, the city of Darmstadt research center. It should be mentioned that ATLAS is the most wide scale expensive project in the history of humankind that ATLAS will learn about the basic forces that have shaped our Universe since the beginning of time and that will determine its fate. The aim of the Georgia’s leading research university is to compete with the world famous scientific-research institutes and centers in the world. It strives to constantly improve its capacity as in research as well as in education.
The TSU researchers publish over 800 scientific publications annually (Thomson base, 2009 data) and more than 100 scientific projects are carried out, and about more than 40 doctoral theses.
